Hazardous-Waste-Rotator.szm513x322During 2012, the crop protection residues sector was mainly driven by the acquisition of shares in the US company Sterycicle. In total, 7 operations were recorded, of which 5 were carried out by the company.

Sterycicle: acquisitions of the 100%

Americans placed their trust in Spain in 2012, accounting for 22% of the purchases made by foreigners, while in 2011 they accounted for only 13% of the deals. The telecommunications sector is the one that provoked the most interest, with purchases such as those made by LivingSocial or Googlewhich were made up of 49.9% of LetsBonus and the 100% of VirusTotal, respectively. In addition, it is worth noting the purchases made by Sterycicle in the waste management sector.

The operations carried out by Stericycicle have been:

  • Anglo Balear de servicios e higiene, a leading company in the management of Hazardous and Biosanitary Waste in the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands.
  • biohigienebiohigiene, a bio-sanitary waste company in Alicante for private entrepreneurs.
  • Fidotec, a company dedicated to providing comprehensive services for dental clinics founded in 1994 by Julián Fernández, has joined the US multinational Sterycicle, a world leader in the biological and healthcare waste treatment sector, and will thus enter the waste sector. Fidotec, which has 34 employees, achieved a turnover of 2.5 million euros in 2011, with an ebitda over turnover of 30%.
  • in the areas of radiation protection, personal dosimetry, radiation protection training and waste management, acquired from the Ortín family for €5M.
  • Integrated sanitation systems: dedicated to the integrated management of health care waste from its collection to its treatment acquired from the group. Fundosa 16.47M.

"The group's acquisitions had already started in Spain in 2011 with the purchase of Consernur and Sermed from the group. Urbaser in a process of sale of non-strategic assets taken advantage of by the American multinational. It is a good example of a build-up process by the world leader with the integration of several local companies at national level". Comments Diego Gutierrez, corporate finance expert at Abra Invest.
