Investments in Start-Ups in the month of March

Despite the coronavirus crisis, March has been a good month for investments in Spanish Start-ups, as the month closed with a total amount invested in Start-ups, similar to that of March last year (11.7 million euros in March 2020 compared to 11.3 million in March 2019).

Se han producido un total de 19 operaciones públicas, todas ellas en fases iniciales e inferiores a 1,5 millones de euros por operación. Además, siete de ellas se han producido a través de las principales plataformas de equity crowdfunding de España.

However, in this post we are going to analyse two of the start-ups that have raised funds this March, both of which are dedicated to the development of medical technologies. These two companies are Aortyx y Qrem.

Start-ups: AORTYX

Aortyx es una spin-off de IQS que desarrolla un dispositivo endovstart-ups aortyxascular mínimamente invasivo para reducir la tasa de mortalidad en disecciones aórticas. La compañía ha arrancado 2020 con el cierre de una ronda de inversión seed amounting to 650.000 euros. La operación ha estado liderada por Genesis Ventures, que ha invertido junto con los otros 71 inversores con los que cuenta en estos momentos Aortyx.

Con la financiación obtenida, la compañía ha iniciado ya las pruebas en animales y comenzará la industrialización de su producto con el objetivo de comercializarlo en 2024. el Dr. Jordi Martorell, CEO y cofundador de Aortyx, ha afirmado que “Esta inversión nos permitirá continuar cumpliendo los tiempos previstos y mantener nuestro objetivo de lanzar el mejor producto posible al mercado».

Start-ups: QREM

Qrembased in Barcelona, specialises in the development and commercialisation of Lab-in-a-Box medical technologies to carry out autologous regenerative medicine treatments with the patient in the doctor's office, making it possible to offer these therapies to as many people as possible in an effective, simple and economical way.

La start-up ha comprometido una ampliación de capital de un millón de euros liderada por Inveready y compartido con varios business angels. Qrem lanzó su primer producto, Q-Cytokine, en 2019 y la financiación recibida permitirá reforzar la validación clínica de la terapia, así como incrementar el equipo comercial para escalar las ventas. Como ha indicado Josep M. Escuer, CEO de Qrem, “la inversión nos permite cerrar una etapa de startup para iniciar otra totalmente nueva de empresa comercial que se marca como objetivo llegar a su punto de equilibrio en el mínimo tiempo posible".
