Ferrovial and Renault create Zity, the third electric car sharing operator in Madrid

Renault and Ferrovial have announced the creation of their joint venture Zity carsharing service that they plan to launch this month. This will be the third carsharing service to operate in Madrid, in direct competition with Car2go and Emov, which currently dominate the car rental market in the capital.

Zity is the result of a joint venture announced in September by the French carmaker and the construction and services company headed by Rafael del Pino. This new mobility service will have a fleet of 500 Renault Zoe electric vehicles, which have an approved range of 400 kilometres and five seats. A total of 100 vehicles will be used for the pilot test, which will be driven by Ferrovial and Renault employees.

Although prices and exact start date are still unknown, we do know that Zity will be able to operate in an area of 75 square kilometres covering the central core of the M-30, and will have two charging bases, located in the north and east of Madrid. Users can already pre-register at and access the platform; the first 5,000 users will receive a promotional code to enjoy the service free of charge for the first 20 minutes.

According to the company's own studies, by 2030 more than 20 % of urban trips will be made by shared mobility services.
