Protagonismo de las corporaciones como inversores en Startups

En el 2014 ha sido momento para que las Corporaciones tomen un papel relevante en la inversión de la innovación. Desde Estados Unidos están viniendo movimientos para que las Corporaciones saquen a relucir su aportación estratégica como ventaja frente al Venture Capital.

Dificultad de adaptación al cambio

Las grandes estructuras organizativas de las multinacionales siempre han sido el centro de las críticas sobre su poca flexibilidad y escasa capacidad de asumir nuevos modelos de negocio. Como decía el anterior CEO y presidente de GE “Si el ratio de cambio es mayor fuera que dentro, el final está cada vez más cerca”.

Pero esta situación está empezando a cambiar de tendencia y las corporaciones están más mentalizadas a que una nueva manera de incorporar innovación se implante. Están surgiendo una oleada de fondos de venture capital corporativos. Por ejemplo en España ha tomado un protagonismo especial el liderado por Wayra, y también en el sector financiero la iniciativa del Banco Sabadell BStartup y la labor que realiza la Fundación Bankinter en el mundo emprendedor.

Rentabilidad versus RSC

Debido al efecto mediático que tienen estas iniciativas en las corporaciones españolas, muchos se preguntan si su origen procede del departamento de responsabilidad social corporativa o realmente proviene de una motivación económica. Por ejemplo, recientemente Simon Devonshire, responsable de Wayra Europe, explicó en una entrevista “Nuestra motivación es económica. Wayra Europa ya está enfocada a proporcionar una rentabilidad sobre las inversiones en la creación de empresas. Hemos tenido muy pocas pérdidas, menores de las previstas”. Muestra de ello es que ya son 80 las ‘startups’ de Wayra que trabajan con Telefónica como cliente.

Esperamos que este año 2015 nos traiga nuevas corporaciones que incluyan dentro de sus planes estratégicos la inversión en startups innovadoras como fuente de crecimiento futuro.
