McGraw hill buys Busuu: Publishers make the move into new technologies

The ways of learning are changing with new technologies. In recent years we have seen how online learning has been gaining ground over books. The big publishers have had to make a leap in their strategy and enter the online market in order to be able to compete in the market. Publishers such as Anaya have already made a turn in their strategy and have incorporated new technologies, while other publishers such as McGraw Hill have decided to enter the technological world by acquiring companies in the sector.

McGraw compra Busuu

En Junio de 2015 McGraw compró  una participación minoritaria de Busuu, la popular red social de aprender  idiomas a través del móvil  por €6M.

Anteriormente, Busuu  ya había recibido antes una ronda de financiación de €4,5M cuando se movió de España a Londres.

Como resultado de esta compra la editorial McGraw se guarda la exclusividad para distribuir Busuu en escuelas, instituciones privadas y empresas.

Beneficios de la compra

La compra ha respondido a las necesidades de crecimiento de las dos empresas.

Por su parte Busuu, que opera en un mercado en el que cada vez hay más competidores  que están creciendo de manera desmesurada como  Duolingo,  empieza a distribuir su producto en nuevos canales como son las escuelas y empresas privadas.

Además la inyección de dinero le permite mejorar su producto y ofrecer servicios  mejorados para sus clientes.

 En la actualidad, el producto tiene presencia en los mercados de Brasil, Rusia, China, Turquía, Alemania y Estados Unidos. La compañía ofrece cursos de idiomas audiovisuales gratuitos y de pago en 12 idiomas, y, además, ofrece interacción directa con nativos en todo el mundo.

Para McGraw, la gran editorial americana, la  adquisición de Bussu le permite mejorar sus servicios en el mercado digital  y poder así ofrecer a sus clientes entrar a formar parte de los métodos de enseñanza de Busuu, la cual te permite hablar con otras personas nativas para mejorar tu conocimiento de un idioma, así como enviar tus “deberes” para que te los corrijan otros usuarios, formando así una gran red de usuarios, que con el nuevo acuerdo podrán verse aumentados.
