This acquisition has been valued at approximately 10 million euros and allows the Webedia Group to now have more than 70 million unique users per month.
Weblogsbased in Madrid, is a company of online media focused on five thematic channels (technology, lifestyle, motoring, leisure and economy), with more than 30 specialised digital publications, including Xataka, Genbeta, Vitónica and Motorpasión.
It was founded in 2005 by Julio Alonso Alcaide, current CEO of the company, with the aim of creating a technology blog. Over the years they developed their service with the ambition of one day becoming the leaders of the national digital media market. The publication of specialised and quality websites have finally made Weblogs one of the most highly rated digital media companies in Spain.
With a current workforce of 13 employees, the company has an annual turnover of around 5.5 million euros. This operating income has been growing steadily since 2011, when it already had a turnover of 2 million euros. However, the economic profitability of the company has fluctuated in recent years and in 2017 it achieved an EBITDA of 878,103 euros.
Weblogs is one of the largest recipients of online advertising in the sector and to channel this advertising it created, together with El Confidencial CM Nativos, a marketing company that earned them 1.3 million euros in 2017 and 1.2 million euros for its partner.
WebediaFrench multinational owner of leading media dedicated to online entertainment such as SensaCine and 3DJuegos, has acquired the whole of Weblogs for approximately 10 million euros, far from the 21 million euros at which the company was valued a few months ago.
Webedia has a strong presence in key markets such as France, the United States, Germany and Brazil, and the acquisition of Weblogs is a sign of its firm bets on the Spanish marketafter acquiring 3DJuegos, one of the most important video game websites, a few seasons ago. In addition, the group also has Vizz, the most important agency representing content creators in Spain, which exclusively manages Top Talents such as ElRubius, Willyrex and Vegetta777, among others, accumulating around 800 million monthly views and almost 300 million followers on their social networks.
On the other hand, this union allows the creation of one of the first Digital Brand Services offers, one of the most key synergies for both companies. This offer consists of providing brands with a complete portfolio of services from the creation and management of content platforms, social media management, video content production or events, which are included in a 360º digital strategy. Leading and emblematic brands such as Coca-Cola, Orange, L'Oreal and El Corte Inglés were pioneers in this type of service.
Until the end of the year, each company will continue to develop its strategy independently. In the meantime, work is being done on the organisation at group level in Spain and a joint global offer will be presented at the beginning of 2019.
