Capella Spacebased in San Francisco, California, and founded in March 2016, has been the company with the most rounds of funding in the Services Information in 2019. It conducted a total number of 3 rounds in that year, raising a total amount of money of just over $45 million.

This company is dedicated to providing data and information from space thanks to its very powerful satellite constellation. Capella Space is active not only in the Information Services industry, but also in the aerospace industry, image recognition and satellite communication.

But before describing the details of the three rounds held this past year 2019, let's be clear about information services (IS), the main industry of this post:

Information Services Sector

The Information Services sector uses integrated methods to gather, process, communicate and store different types of information to improve the efficiency of society and organisations.

IS data - typically comprising people, software, hardware and procedures - are used for research, analysis and to improve decision-making processes.

Having explained this, let's focus on the financing rounds conducted by Capella Space:

First round:

The first round was conducted on 23 April 2019. The total amount of money raised by the funding round was 13,700,000$. This amount is normal as this is a series B round. Series B rounds are about taking businesses to the next level, beyond the development stage, i.e. they are used to grow the company so that it can meet higher levels of demand. However, the status of the round is Early Stage Venture, as the company is still a young company, only 4 years old, which means that it is still in the process of growth.

On the other hand, the main and sole investor in the transaction was Cota Capitala US investment firm specialising in technology companies such as Capella Space. In its portfolio of companies in which it has invested, a total of 51, it is worth highlighting the presence of Compliance.ai, a company dedicated to financial services, a subsector of Information Services, or Current, dedicated to banking services for teenagers and their parents. This underlines the firm's focus on the Information Services sector.

Second round:

The second round took place on 26 November, with a value of almost USD 2 million, and having almost the same characteristics as the first round. What stands out the most is the amount, which is very small compared to the first and third rounds, which will be discussed below.

Moreover, the sole investor in this operation was Alumni Ventures Group, a US firm located in Manchester, New Hampshire, which is also largely focused on technology companies, such as Turing or SecurrencyThe first company dedicated to Big Data and the second to financial technology.

Third Round:

This was the last one made by the company for the moment. It was announced on the 11th day of the last month of 2019. With a total proceeds of 29.400.000$ and characteristics also similar to the two previous rounds.

In this case, the lead investment firm for the operation was Data Collective DCVCalso American. It is a firm that encompasses industries ranging from aerospace, as in this case, to applied Artificial Intelligence.

Finally, it should be noted that Capella Space has raised a total of 10 rounds of funding during its four years of existence, raising a total of almost 82 million dollars. This has led to the great growth it has had and will have over the next few years.
