Learn about the biggest funding rounds in recent years in companies specialising in SaaS Video Editing. Plus, we take a look at PlayFilm's €1.1M seed investment round.

About PlayFilm

PlayFilm is a Spanish company that has developed a SaaS (software as a service) video marketing platform that optimises the production and publication of interactive videos.

Raquel Valero, CEO of PlayFilm, Raquel Valero: "With our unique portfolio of powerful and easy-to-use interactive video templates, businesses can attract, engage and satisfy their customers with relevant, useful and unique video marketing experiences.

Starting with an advanced technology for creating interactive videos, which agencies and production companies quickly connected with, the PlayFilm team has been simplifying the platform over the past year to a point where anyone can use it, whether or not they have video or programming skills. This evolution has naturally connected the platform to a much broader customer segment: SMEs and freelancers. "We are working to become the WordPress or Wix of interactive video," said Rafael Navarro.

Founded in 2014 in Valencia by Raquel Valero and Rafael Navarro, PlayFilm has managed to multiply its turnover by nine and its number of clients by three in just one year. However, as Valero explained: "The figures for the last two months are even more encouraging. By simplifying our technology and directing our marketing directly to the end customer, we have managed to accelerate the sales cycle by 600% and triple the number of monthly sales.

PlayFilm raises €1.1M

The Spanish startup PlayFilm has closed its seed round with a total capital of €1.1M. Marcos de Quinto, Coca-Cola's number two worldwide, is the latest investor to join a seed round that brings together prominent names such as Javier Rodríguez Zapatero (former CEO of Google Spain), Toni Segarra and Luis Cuesta (co-founders of SCPF), Ángel Cano (former CEO of BBVA) and Luis Bonell (former CEO of Liberty Mutual International).

They join Juan Roig (chairman and founder of Mercadona), who was the first to back the Valencian company through Shuttle and Angels Capital. The round is completed by: Sabadell Venture CapitalThe Crowd Angel, Sevenzonic, Fides Capital and other representative Business Angels, who join Angels Capital (Lead Investor), BSF15, Grupo Zriser and Pinama Inversiones, among other individual investors.

The Valencian company will use part of this round to complete the consolidation of the Product Market Fit, with the aim of positioning PlayFilm as the most powerful SaaS (software as a service) video marketing platform on the market.

Although the company's main objective with this round is to consolidate the business in Spain, they plan to allocate part of it to start the internationalisation phase. Valero pointed out that they have already tried to sell in LATAM, taking advantage of the seasonal nature of last summer, and managed to sell the same as in Spain.

Finally, Valero concluded: "We intend to be very ambitious with PlayFilm, we look at disruptive businesses such as Wix or Typeform, and we are aware that to be like them it is essential to surround ourselves with the best. The board of investors that we currently have is not by chance, it is not just a question of money, you have to select your fellow travellers very well. We could not be more satisfied or more grateful so far with all that our partners and our team are giving us, and we want to continue in this line".

Advanced data anlytics is a weapon". Intelfin is an artificial intelligence tool we use for investing and creating value in SMEs through competitive analytics and the enterprise environment.

IntelFin consists of a cognitive system, which, through the application of advanced analytical technologies, facilitates the automation of investment and financing decisions in the field of non-listed companies and especially SMEs in high-growth sectors.

The information related to these companies is characterized by their lack of transparency and heterogeneity; thus, it is necessary to develop an advanced analysis which is as much predictive as prescriptive and is developed in a natural language custom, suitable to obtain greater clarity and knowledge of the investment scope.

Which areas of activity/business models will receive the most investment? Which sectors are most attractive to investors?
Which companies are going to experience the most growth in the near future? Which companies are most likely to receive investment or be acquired?
