NEA, Andreessen Horowitz, Accel Partners: Most active investors in big data

Investment in big data analytics companies grew considerably in 2015, when 73 rounds were made for an amount of $$1.8B. In the first half of 2016, investment seems to have fallen a little, with 25 rounds.

La mayoría de las rondas cerradas en 2016, son rondas en fases tempranas.Esto nos muestra que es un sector en el que se está innovando, todavía tiene mucho recorrido por delante, en el que los productos se están testeando en el mercado. Sin embargo, el hecho de que inversores de renombre como Andreessen Horowitz or Accel Partners, estén entre los inversores más activos del sector, convierten al Big data para la analítica en un sector en el que parece razonable invertir.

New Enterprise Associates

The most active investor New Enterprise Associates, ha participado en un total de 17 rondas dentro del sector del Big data para analítica de datos. New Enterprise invierte en empresas de sector muy diferentes que van desde el sector energético al sector tecnológico, pasando por la salud. Además participa en rondas de distintas fases. Este año 2016 hemos detectado que ha participado  tanto en rondas seed ( Node), como en rondas en fases muy avanzadas(Onshape $105M).

NEA, también ha participado en empresas españolas como Wallapop, en la que entró el año pasado para empujar al mercado virtual de segunda mano  en su expansión por EEUU.

Entre las inversiones que ha realizado en el sector Big data analytics, destaca la realizada en Pentaho en 2012, por ser unas de las primeras rondas realizadas en el sector, además de por el importe conseguido ($23M), bastante elevado para una empresa de Big data en 2012. En el 2015 Pentaho fue vendida a Hitachi Data Systems. Pentaho es una herramienta de business intelligence que analiza los datos empresariales y te permite hacer informes.

La última inversión realizada en este sector fue este septiembre de 2016, en la empresa DataRobot. La ronda de $33M, fue liderada por Nea, pero también participaron otros inversores como Accomplice o Intel Capital. DataRobot, es una plataforma de análisis predictivo para las empresas.

Andreessen Horowitz

El segundo inversor más activo, con 15 operaciones cerradas en el sector en Andreessen Horowitz. Este inversor americano ha invertido en empresas ha incluido entre las 16  tendencias más invertibles en los próximos años el aprendizaje automático, unido al big data que permite la predicción analítica.

 Entre las empresas en las que Andressen Horrowitz ha invertido en el sector encontramos a Platfora.

Platfora, proporciona un conjunto de herramientas para el  análisis visual de datos, para datos que están en Hadoop, he incluye capacidades para realizar consultas y hacer reports. El año pasado, además Platfora, amplio su software de análisis para que funcione con los datos de sensores, máquinas y otros dispositivos. Andressen Horrowtz, ha participado en varias rondas realizadas por esta empresa, la última en Diciembre de 2015.
