El venture capital impulsa las apps para aprender idiomas

Empresas participadas por el venture capital

Entre las empresas para aprender idiomas a través de aplicaciones destacan DuolingoBabbelMindSnacksMemrise y Bosuu.

Duolingo, galardonado  como mejor aplicación para Iphone por Apple, es el líder en  aplicaciones  para aprender idiomas. Consiguió su tercera ronda de financiación de $20M este pasado mes de Febrero 2014 de la mano de Kleiner Perkins Caufield y Union Square Ventures.

Babbel , que en el pasado año 2013 lanzó 11 apps para windows 8 recibió una ronda de $10M  de la mano de Reed Elsevier VenturesNokia Growth Partners y Kizoo Technologies ventures.

“Babbel el pasado año compró Playsay, una aplicación social de aprendizaje de idiomas para Iphone que incorpora conversaciones reales y la evaluación de la pronunciación” comenta Diego Gutierrez, experto en financiación alternativa del grupo Abra Invest.

MindSnacks, el pasado 2012 consiguió una ronda de $6,5M de Felicis Ventures, Eniac Ventures, Sequoia capital y Lever Ventures.

Memorise ha conseguido 4 rondas de financiación desde el 2010, fecha en la que se creó. La última de ellas de 6,2 M, liderada por Avalon VenturesBalderton Capital, y Theoria Capital.

Busuu, que consiguió llegar a 20 millones de descargas en 2013 recibió una ronda serie A de $4,7M en el 2012, en la que participó Profounders Capital. Busuu ha ganado mucha popularidad en este último año, llegando a situarse por delante de empresas líderes como Memrise y Mindsnacks.      

Compras en el sector: Rosetta Stones     

También se han producido varias operaciones de compra en el sector. Rosetta Stones, plataforma para aprender idiomas, ha conseguido situarse la segunda en el ranking de apps, después de Duolingo , gracias a las numerosas compras realizadas en este 2013, que le ha situado como uno de los inversores más activos en el sector educación Tics. El pasado año compró Vivity Labs por M12$, Tell me more por $28M , Lexia learning system por $22.5M y Livemocha.
