The private equity Spanish investors have been investing in the information technology sector in recent years. In 2013 and the first half of 2014, 187 transactions were carried out in the sector, involving more than 280 investors..

Most active investors: Cabiedes and Caixa CR.

Although there are a large number of investors In the sector, there are two that stand out for having carried out a large number of operations. These are Cabiedes and Partners and Caixa Capital Risk.

Cabiedes and Partners  has participated in a total of 12 companies related to information technology between 2013 and the first half of 2014. These companies are dedicated to very different activities, from a website to buy costumes such as Funidelia, to a platform where you can learn different skills through videos, such as Funidelia. Floqq.

"Following the model of investment de Cabiedes: Invest little money in many companies and a lot of money in few companies, most of the operations carried out do not exceed €500,000 and only the Madrid-based company Gigas has secured Cabiedes' investment of more than €1.5M" says Diego Gutierrez, CEO of Cabiedes. Abra-Invest.

Caixa Capital Riskthrough its Caixa Capital TIC fund, has inverted in 10 companies related to information technology, the last of them last June in Trip4real specialising in the offer of tourist experiences offered by locals.

"Caixa Capital tic II, is one of the funds chosen by Fond-ico in its second call for proposals, which will increase the number of funds in the investments The fund's work in the sector," says Diego Gutierrez.

In addition to the funding received by the various funds, it is worth noting the role played by Enisawhich has provided financial support to a total of 12 companies in the IT sector.

If we take into account the total amount invested, the list of the most active investors changes radically, with Cabiedes and Caixa Capital Risk giving way to Seaya VenturesAxon Partners Group  and Bonsai Ventures Capital whose investment profile is geared towards larger, expansion and growth stage operations rather than seed.

Type of rounds: early-stage and growth funding

The majority of the rounds have been rounds in expansion stage companies (48%) and seed capital (37%).

The entry of new funds with more contributions, such as Kibo Ventures, Active Venture, Nauta, Bullnet or Seaya Ventures, has boosted investments start-ups, which until now had been difficult to obtain. This is very important for the competitiveness of Spanish technology, which had difficulties to grow due to the impossibility of raising rounds at more advanced stages.
