El Marco Financiero Plurianual ha propuesto el programa Europa Digital, un programa centrado en la creación de las capacidades digitales estratégicas de la UE y en facilitar el amplio despliegue de las tecnologías digitales 

La transición digital es clave para la futura prosperidad y resiliencia de Europa. Como parte del próximo presupuesto de la UE a largo plazo, el Marco Financiero Plurianual, la Comisión ha propuesto el programa Europa Digital, el programa de la UE para acelerar la recuperación e impulsar la transformación digital de Europa. Con un presupuesto de 8.200 millones de euros (9.200 millones de euros a precios actuales). 

El programa impulsará las inversiones en supercomputación, inteligencia artificial, ciberseguridad, conocimientos digitales avanzados y la garantía de un amplio uso de las tecnologías digitales en toda la economía y la sociedad, incluso mediante los centros de innovación digital. 

Su objetivo es mejorar la competitividad de Europa en la economía digital mundial, lograr la soberanía tecnológica y facilitar el amplio despliegue de tecnologías digitales. Se hará mediante el despliegue y la creación de capacidad de las nuevas tecnologías digitales, a fin de apoyar la transformación digital que garantice servicios públicos de alta calidad que beneficien a los ciudadanos, las empresas y las administraciones públicas de Europa.
