Square Adquiere la start up española de pagos móviles Verse

Verse, la startup española de pagos móviles, fue adquirida por Square, la Fintech de Jack Dorsey, fundador de la red social Twitter.  

El precio de la transacción no ha trascendido. Fuentes del mercado aseguran que podría ascender entre los 30 y 50 millones de euros. 

Verse, una startup exitosa 

Verse es una compañía fundada en Barcelona en 2015, que desarrolla la app de pagos homónima y que está dirigida por el emprendedor salmantino Bernardo Hernández, quien fuera en su momento el director de Flickr y, antes de eso, director de producto de Google.  

La app, que suma actualmente 40 empleados, un millón de usuarios y 500 millones de euros transaccionados, cuenta con licencia de pagos europea desde hace un año, tiempo en el que ha logrado mantener el tipo ante Bizum (la plataforma líder en España de pagos móviles inmediatos) y mostrar un buen nivel de crecimiento en países vecinos como Italia, Francia y Portugal. 

El éxito de Verse desde su creación ha sido, en parte, gracias al gran número de inversores que lo han apoyado, como, por ejemplo, como Greycroft PartnersVAS Venture y Spark, además de business angels como Nikesh Arora, Alan, David Stern, Jonathan Winer y Charlie Songhurst. 

A principios de año anunció sus planes para lanzar su propia tarjeta de débito digital. 

La operación 

La adquisición, realizada de la mano de Cash App, la app de pagos de Square, es la primera que lleva a cabo la compañía en Europa, y supone, de facto, su desembarco en la eurozona, pues la compañía solo opera a este lado del Atlántico en Reino Unido. Gracias a la operación, la compañía estadounidense logra ampliar de 5 a 37 la lista de países en los que ofrece sus servicios. 

Según un comunicado publicado por Square, su principal prioridad es permitir que Verse continúe su exitoso crecimiento en Europa. Por ese motivo, la startup continuará operando como un negocio independiente, trabajando desde sus oficinas sin cambios inmediatos en sus productos, clientes u operaciones comerciales existentes. 

El crecimiento será posible gracias a la importante inyección de recursos que vivirá Verse, al sumar la capacidad financiera y tecnológica de Square, además de los servicios que Cash App ya oferta en EEUU.
