Ericsson compra la empresa Cradlepoint por 1.100 millones de dólares

La compañía tecnológica sueca Ericsson ha alcanzado un acuerdo para adquirir Cradlepoint, proveedor estadounidense de soluciones inalámbricas 4G y 5G para empresas,  por un importe de 1.100 millones de dólares en efectivo. 

Ericsson es un proveedor sueco de tecnología y servicios a operadores de telecomunicaciones. Ofrece tecnologías móviles 2G, 3G y 4G, y proporciona soporte para redes con más de 2.000 millones de abonados y tiene la posición líder en servicios gestionados. La cartera de la empresa comprende infraestructura de redes móviles y fijas, servicios de telecomunicaciones, software, soluciones de banda ancha y multimedia para operadores, empresas y la industria de los medios de comunicación. 

Ericsson es parte de las empresas Sony Ericsson y ST-Ericsson que proporciona a los consumidores dispositivos móviles personales. Ericsson tiene el objetivo de ser el principal impulsor en un mundo totalmente comunicado a través de la innovación, la tecnología y las soluciones empresariales sostenibles. 

Cradlepoint fue fundada en 2006, es una empresa privada estadounidense que ofrece una solución de red basada en la nube para conectar personas, lugares y cosas a través de banda ancha alámbrica e inalámbrica. Cradlepoint NetCloud es una plataforma de software y servicios que amplía los enrutadores multifuncionales 4G LTE de la empresa y las resistentes puertas de enlace M2M/IoT con gestión basada en la nube y servicios de red definidos por software. 

Gracias a Cradlepoint, los clientes pueden aprovechar la velocidad y la economía de la banda ancha de Internet alámbrica e inalámbrica para redes de sucursales, de conmutación por error, móviles y de IO, al tiempo que mantienen la visibilidad, la seguridad y el control de extremo a extremo. Los principales proveedores de servicios utilizan las soluciones de red de Cradlepoint como base de ofertas de servicios gestionados innovadores. 

Ericsson afirma comprar Cradlepoint por ser clave en su estrategia actual de capturar cuota de mercado en el segmento de 5G para empresas, de rápida expansión, y remarca que así completará su cartera propia de soluciones para este mercado. De esta manera, creará nuevas fuentes de ingresos de clientes al generar servicios completos habilitados de 5G para empresas e impulsar el retorno de las inversiones en la red.
