Energy Storage: Tendencias por área geográfica

El mercado de Energy Storage es un mercado aún joven en el que muchos países están entrando y creciendo de una manera muy rápida. Baker Tilly analiza cuales son las tendencias por área geográfica; los países que más dinero invierten y los que tienen más rondas de almacenamiento de energía. 

Pero antes de analizar los países líderes en el sector, expliquemos lo que es Energy Storage. El Energy Storage comprende los métodos que tiene la humanidad para conservar, en la medida de lo posible, una cierta cantidad de energía en cualquier forma para utilizarla cuando se requiera, concentra y libera energía que se puede consumir durante o después del proceso de almacenamiento.  

Los Estados Unidos siguen liderando la inversión en almacenamiento de energía y ampliando su red. En 2018, las empresas de servicios públicos interconectaron 760,3 MWh de almacenamiento de energía. Esto significa un aumento anual del 44,9% en MWh desplegados en comparación con 2017 y después de un almacenamiento acumulado de 1.966,6 MWh. En segundo lugar, encontramos Reino Unido que recibió más rondas, se centran en las rondas de semillas, ya que el dinero recaudado les da el séptimo lugar. 

Por otro lado, Alemania tiene un amplio mercado, dado que, tiene un ambicioso proyecto de transición energética en el que quiere reducir al menos el 80% de las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero para 2050 y también eliminará progresivamente todas sus centrales nucleares para 2023. Este plan requiere una inversión en el mercado de almacenamiento de energía como vemos en la figura (casi 470M$ en 2018) - Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI). 

Aunque no tenemos acceso a los datos de China, la mayoría de las inversiones son realizadas por empresas gubernamentales, es líder en la cantidad de inversiones en el mercado de la energía renovable.  En 2017, China invirtió 133 mil millones de dólares en energía renovable.
