As described in the investment report conducted by Baker Tilly, Cloud Computing is a promising sector and one in which there are many possibilities in business acquisitions and investment. It is present all over the world, as described in the article "Global Financing of the Cloud Computing Sector", presenting an increasing number of significant movements and operations. In addition, the United States is the country with the highest number of operations and with the highest proceeds obtained, following the usual practice.
If we focus on Spain, we conclude that it is a country with a low number of operations, but with great potential. As Viktor Karlsson, CEO of Telavox, mentions, "Spain is a leading country in Europe in digital infrastructure", which highlights the great investment potential that exists in the country.
In this article we focus on three of the most relevant business acquisitions according to the criteria of our expert analysts in the technology sector, analyzing each of them to show and understand the purpose of the operation. They are the following:
The companies acquired in these transactions are Spanish companies.
One of the most interesting business acquisitions is the one made by Telavox, a Swedish company founded in 2002 with the aim of making enterprise communications simple and natural. With this idea they developed a cloud platform, having complete control over it, unlike many other companies that operate unified communications platforms (UCaaS).
UCaaS (Unified Communications as a Service) is based on providing communication and collaboration applications and services for businesses. Specifically, Telavox offers intelligent and efficient telephony, PBX and chat communication solutions, among others.
On the other hand, Numintec is a Spanish company based in Barcelona. It is dedicated to telecommunications services consulting, intelligent communications management, etc. Also founded in 2002, Numintec brings automation to business processes thanks to the incorporation of artificial intelligence.
The main reason for this acquisition, made on March 11, is the integration in a new market (Spanish and even Portuguese) and its consolidation in a growing market, especially in UCaaS, such as Spain. This operation also consolidates a much more powerful product, allowing customers to benefit from a comprehensive communication and a solid mobile offer, as defined by Numintec's CEO, Albino Campo. Finally, Viktor Karlsson, CEO of Telavox, emphasizes that the Spanish market is perfect for his idea, as it is a market that realizes the need for mobile communication center services.
The second of the Spanish business acquisitions is that of Globant. This company was born in Argentina in 2003, although its current headquarters is located in Chicago, United States. It offers digital native technology services with the aim of completely transforming the client company, turning them, as they say, into a new way of being digital. It has already made 16 acquisitions and has received more than $100 million in funding.
Habitant is a renowned Spanish digital marketing consultancy with a strong Spanish-speaking presence. It helps solve business problems through products, services and digital experiences.
The transaction took place on May 12. As mentioned above, Habitant has a strong presence in the Spanish-speaking market so Globant gains by consolidating in this market. On the other hand, being Habitant a digital marketing specialist, Globant strengthens its product design, expecting a future benefit due to the current great potential of the sector.
This operation, despite having been carried out in 2018, is still remarkable as it marks a trend that will hopefully be near future for Spanish companies. Previous acquisitions were made by foreign companies, like most acquisitions in Spain, indicating that Spain is a good place to invest in and with great potential.
On the other hand, it is also a good indication that Spanish companies themselves are the ones that want to expand and consolidate, as in this case, in the Spanish market. GIGAS is one of the largest Cloud companies in Spain with more than 20 million in funding and two acquisitions throughout its history (founded in 2011). It is dedicated to offering convergent and comprehensive communications and Cloud services.
This acquisition of SVT is the first of four that GIGAS has made. Subsequently, it bought the Colombian company Ability, the Portuguese AHP and the Irish Ignitar. All these companies, acquired in the past four years, are companies focused on cloud services that improve latency and customer service. With this, GIGAS wants to emphasize the idea of expanding and consolidating in the market, making it clear that it is not only foreign companies that perform mergers or acquisitions to Cloud companies.
