Arcano Asset Managementthe leading alternative asset management firm in Spain with more than 3.5 billion euros in assets, has launched Arcano Ventureswhich is scheduled to close for the first time on 31 May 2017 for 50% of the total planned amount (€180M).
Arcano plans to invest in technology companies with high growth potential throughout the value chain, mainly specialising in new technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence and new collaborative economy models. The fund will focus on the United States, and more specifically on Silicon Valley, where most companies with this profile are concentrated.
Arcano will act hand in hand with Urizen Ventures, an American investment firm based in Silicon Valley and with a track record of having invested with the main top funds in Silicon Valley. In this way, Arcano enters directly into Venture Capital with first class investors and entrepreneurs, with experience and a successful track record in Silicon Valley.
Alta Partnersis a benchmark in life sciences venture capital, founded in 1996. It is now coming to Spain through Altamar, an independent financial services group chaired by Claudio Aguirre. Alta has created Alta Life Sciences Spain I (Alta LS), a leading venture capital investment company that aims to raise more than €175M and to be the largest life sciences investment vehicle created in Spain.
The fund will invest indiscriminately in companies at different stages of growth, known as a "multi-stage fund". This means it will have the ability to make investments in "promising" firms from seed funding through to a potential sale or IPO, covering all stages and providing "support and funding to life sciences companies as and when they need it". It will invest in all areas of life sciences, including biotechnology, medical devices, diagnostics, genomics and digital health.
The Barcelona-based venture capital firm Suma Capital is preparing its second energy efficiency and circular economy fund, which will have €100m, up from €20m in the previous such vehicle in 2014.
