In 2014, venture capital investment in technology companies grew considerably, partly due to the entry of international funds, which see an opportunity in Spanish technology companies. It seems that this positive trend will continue to grow in 2015. Proof of this is that the venture capital is Spain is creating new funds for technology companies. In March alone, Antai Venture Builder has raised its fund to €25M, Galdana Ventures has been created to offer investors in Spain and Latin America advice and access to the best international Venture Capital managers, Fond-ico has distributed €124M and the CDTI has launched a new technology fund.

Galdana Ventures: Venture capital fund of funds is born

Galdana Ventureswas created to offer investors in Spain and Latin America advice and access to the best international Venture Capital managers.

Galdana Ventures will in the near future launch a Venture Capital Fund of Funds that will invest mainly in primary investments in the best international Venture Capital funds and managers in the technology field, mainly in internet, software and mobile solutions.

The size of this first Fund of Funds specialised in Venture Capital is €150M, including contributions from institutional investors, family officesThe event will be attended by a selection of the best successful entrepreneurs in the Spanish technology sector and the managers of Galdana Ventures.

Antai Venture Builder expands its fund to €25M

Antai Venture Builder has decided to increase by €10M its fund after investing €15M in technology startups, especially in digital product projects. The group expects to close the fund in three or four months with the incorporation of institutional investors and family office.

"Antai has evolved from a Business Angel network to become a "venture builder". This concept is new in Spain, although it has evolved more in the USA. It consists of a kind of incubator that invests in projects conceived and actively participated in by its own managers, but whose day-to-day work depends on third party partners such as CEOs or operations directors. Antai has already given rise to such benchmark startups as Wallapop, Elcodi, Chicplace and Fancibox among others," says Diego Gutierrez of Abra-Invest.

Cdti launches a fund to invest in technology companies

 This new fund for technology companies aims to mobilise a total investment of between €400M and €600M, of which €100M will be provided by CDTI.

Investments will mainly be directed towards the chemical sector, electronics and ICT industry, transport industry, biotechnology, agri-food, energy and capital goods.

Fond-ico allocates €124M to six funds

Fond-ico has already published the six new funds of its fourth call, which will distribute €123.75 million.

The funds chosen were Ged and Magnum capital in the expansion capital category, Bullnet Management and Nereo Green Capital in the Venture Capital category and Caixa capital risk and Antai II capital in the hatchery category.

Fifteen funds have applied for this call, of which 40% are international.
