Health diagnostics: Key investors at each stage

In this post we are going to analyse the most important investors in the health diagnostics sector, classified according to the stage the investee companies were in at the time of investment, i.e. whether they were companies in Seed Stage y Early Stage

 

The Health Diagnostics o Diagnósticos de Salud includes all those companies dedicated to the development of techniques and instruments that facilitate the early diagnosis of pathologies and/or diseases and enable action to be taken against them as soon as possible.

Seed Stage: SOSV

SOSV is an investment management and venture capital firm that provides seed, venture and growth stage financing to start-ups in the technology sector. Its main focus is on accelerating the growth of technology start-ups. startups through specific programmes, called Seed Acceleratorsin Europe, Asia and the United States.

2018 and 2019 were the years in which SOSV made the most investments in the health diagnostics sector, with a total of 13 investments in Seed Stagewhile in Late Stage only 8 investments were made. In addition, the main destination of funds was the United States, followed by Ireland and Canada. 

For example, in 2019 it took part in a round of the stage. Seed of the US startup Sentio Solutions (Feel), dedicated to the development of technologies for the diagnosis of mental health conditions. It invested $4.5 million in this company. In addition, in 2016 it financed with €1.6 million the growth stage of the company. Seed of the Irish company Metabolomic Diagnostics, dedicated to the development of methods for the diagnosis of pre-eclampsia in pregnancy.

 

 

Early Stage: 8VC

 Eight Partners VC, LLC (8VC) is a technology investment company, specialising primarily in investments in companies in Early Stages. It is a smaller company in volume than the previous one, SOSV, and this is why its activity is mainly focused on the United States. Despite the geographical limitation, it is very active in investing in US startups, with a total of 10 participations in rounds of Early Stage of different technology companies in the last year.

One of the most important investments in the health diagnostics sector was the one in Guardant Health, a start-up company dedicated to research and development of blood tests for oncology patients. In 2017 it participated in the "Series E" round with 360 million dollars.
