Wayra Spain: Accelerated companies

If we focus on Wayra Spain, since it accelerated its first 10 companies in 2011, a total of 57 companies have gone through Wayra Spain. acceleratorAll of them with a common denominator, companies in the field of ICTs, from e-commerce and mobile apps, which are the most numerous, to metrics analysis companies.

"In the last call in 2014 Wayra was mainly looking for Internet of Everything and Smart Cities companies, Big Data for retail and verticals such as transport or logistics and Future Web." Says Diego Gutierrez of Abra-Invest

In terms of the geographical area of the companies, the majority of them are companies based in Madrid (28) and Barcelona (17), but we can also find companies located in other parts of the Spanish geography such as Aditiumcompany located in Zabaloetxe, Bizkaia,  accelerated this past year 2014 dedicated to providing professional solutions based on Smartphones.

It seems that the number of companies accelerated by Wayra Spain continues to grow as the years go by, although the accelerator is opening up to new geographic markets, so if in 2011 there were 10 companies accelerated by Wayra in 2013 the number of companies rose to 19.

In 2014, in addition to the call for the first half of the year that invested in 11 startups, Wayra has opened a new global call for projects until 5 October in order to seek new business proposals. In this second call, it is expected that another 10 companies in Spain will enter, thus surpassing the 2014 ratios.

Second rounds received by accelerated companies

As part of its acceleration programme, Wayra provides companies with funding of up to 40,000 Euros, a workspace at the Academies in Madrid and Barcelona, access to an outstanding panel of experts and mentors, plus technological support and business advice from the different business units of the Telefónica Group and Wayra in 13 countries.

A number of Wayra-accelerated companies have been awarded financing rounds 11M€ between all of them. Several of these companies have raised more than one round, for example Marfeel, dedicated to automatically transforming the content of a website and adapting it to any mobile device. The latest of these, a €1.6M round, was led by Nauta Capital 860,000, but also involved Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments Wayra and Elaia Partners.

Another firm that has also managed to close a large number of rounds is Emtricsa service to collect the opinion/satisfaction of the customers of a traditional retailer via a mobile phone. All of them have been seed and angel rounds.

Technology Data Analytics
for M&A
Advanced data anlytics is a weapon". Intelfin is an artificial intelligence tool we use for investing and creating value in SMEs through competitive analytics and the enterprise environment.

IntelFin consists of a cognitive system, which, through the application of advanced analytical technologies, facilitates the automation of investment and financing decisions in the field of non-listed companies and especially SMEs in high-growth sectors.

The information related to these companies is characterized by their lack of transparency and heterogeneity; thus, it is necessary to develop an advanced analysis which is as much predictive as prescriptive and is developed in a natural language custom, suitable to obtain greater clarity and knowledge of the investment scope.

The IntelFin system focuses especially on analyzing the variables that define and influence the competitive environment of a sector and the positioning of a company, analyzing their influence on future value creation. Therefore, IntelFin supports strategic decision-making to senior management by resolving questions such as:

¿What are my competitors' priorities, strategies and expansion plans? Who's my competition? Which competitor is most likely to grow at a higher rate?
Which areas of activity/business models will receive the most investment? Which sectors are most attractive to investors?
Which companies are going to experience the most growth in the near future? Which companies are most likely to receive investment or be acquired?
Training Methodology
We have developed training programs in an innovative set-up which guarantees our teams the acquisition of technical competences both in the field of corporate finance and in the field of psychology, that is much needed when it comes to negotiation processes.
