Copec is a company dedicated to the distribution of fuels and lubricants, based in Santiago de Chile.

It recently acquired a 13.5% stake in Ampere Energy, a solar energy company based in Puzol, Valencia.

Thanks to this operation, the Spanish company will start operating in Chile and Colombia.

Renewable energies are increasingly being used throughout the world.

In the current climate situation, these are very important in countries where the pressure to phase out electricity generation from conventional sources is greatest.

This is the case in countries such as Chile, which is home to less efficient and less polluting plants.

But things are changing.

Proof of this is the number of projects being carried out in the country, with clear objectives and deadlines.

COPEC AND AMPERE ENERGY

Copec is one of the leading energy companies on the American continent.

At the beginning of December, it became a shareholder in the Spanish company Ampere Energy, a manufacturer and marketer of second-generation energy storage systems.

The objective is none other than to support the latter's landing and expansion on the American continent.

There are also plans to offer Chileans the possibility of generating clean energy directly in their homes, storing it and re-injecting the surplus into the electricity system.

As a result of the operation, Copec has acquired the 13,5% of capital of Ampere Energy and enters the home power generation market.

In addition, he joins its Board of Directors, made up of a team of investors and professionals with an outstanding track record in the energy sector.

INTERNATIONALISATION STRATEGY

Its participation as a shareholder represents an important reinforcement of Ampere Energy's internationalisation strategy.

The Spanish company has consolidated its position as a leader in southern Europe in the production of batteries and intelligent energy management systems and is making progress in its positioning in other geographical areas.

In a first phase, the agreement between the two organisations envisages the start of activities in Chile and Colombia.

Subsequently, the marketing of the storage systems designed by the Spanish firm could be extended to other countries on the continent.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND BIG DATA

Its equipment stores energy from both a solar photovoltaic installation and the electricity grid, and is characterised by its high degree of technological innovation.

In addition, they have software equipped with Artificial Intelligence components and Big Data tools.

These analyse weather forecasts, user consumption patterns and energy prices to benefit from arbitrage with dynamic tariffs.

As a result, these systems are able to manage themselves autonomously and optimise self-consumption systems up to 90%.

WHO IS COPEC?

The company was founded in Chile in 1934.

Today it has operations in Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Ecuador and Panama, through its subsidiary Terpel.
